Ingredients + Substitutions

Ingredients for Chicken Bacon Ranch Pinwheels
  • Chicken – You’ll want three cups cooked chicken for these easy chicken bacon ranch pinwheels. This is the perfect use for leftover baked chicken breasts, homemade rotisserie chicken, or deli chicken.
  • Bacon – Crispy bacon pieces add smoky flavor that everyone loves! Try my oven-baked bacon recipe for perfectly crispy pieces.
  • Cheddar cheese – Shredded cheddar adds cheesy flavor. Choose mild, medium, or sharp – whichever is your favorite.
  • Cream cheese – Make sure the cream cheese is room temperature so that it mixes well with the other ingredients.
  • Mayonnaise – For a creamy filling and added dose of flavor, plus a bit of mayo helps loosen the filling so that it’s easy to spread.
  • Sour cream – Also helps to make the filling spreadable, plus sour cream adds even more tangy flavor and creaminess.
  • Ranch seasoning – One packet, or about 3 tablespoons, of ranch seasoning is needed. Buy a packet from the store or try my recipe for homemade ranch seasoning!
  • Tortillas – You’ll want large, burrito-sized flour tortillas for these ranch pinwheels.

Make sure to see the recipe card at the bottom of this post for the full quantities and ingredients list.

Recipe Variations

If you love this recipe as much as we do and want some quick ways to change it up for variety, these little tips will do the trick!

  • Jalapeño Chicken Bacon Ranch Pinwheels– Add a chopped fresh jalapeño pepper to the filling along with a few dashes of green jalapeño Tabasco sauce.
  • Gluten-Free Chicken Bacon Ranch Pinwheels– Swap the flour tortillas for a gluten-free tortilla or wrap.
  • Chicken Veggie Bacon Ranch Pinwheels– Add some fresh veggies to the mix for added nutrition and crunch. Try diced celery, scallions and/or finely diced onion, and chopped red bell pepper.

Recipe Step by Step

Spread 1/4 of the cream cheese mixture onto one of the tortillas.

Rolling up the tortilla for chicken bacon ranch pinwheels.

Tightly roll the tortilla up and place on a plate, seam-side down. Repeat with the remaining tortillas and filling.

Slicing the tortilla for chicken bacon ranch pinwheels.

Chill rolls in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes. Slice each roll into 1-inch pieces and serve.

Recipe Tips

  1. Make sure your cream cheese is room temp – Otherwise, it will be very difficult to mix and spread your filling. I suggest pulling the cream cheese out of your fridge at least an hour before you’re ready to assemble your chicken ranch pinwheels.
  2. Don’t skip the chilling step! – It’s important to chill ranch pinwheels for at least 15 minutes so that they firm up enough to slice without flattening out.
  3. Slice with a sharp serrated knife – A knife with “teeth” like a serrated knife is the easiest way to slice chicken and bacon pinwheels.
  4. Slice right before serving – If you’re making your ranch pinwheels ahead of time, I suggest waiting to slice them until close to serving time. Otherwise, they can dry out.

Recipe Short Cuts

If you need to make this recipe, but are extra short on time, here are a few ideas that can help make this recipe even faster!

  • Make-ahead – Make chicken bacon ranch roll-ups up to 4 days ahead of time! I like to assemble the rolls and refrigerate them, then slice right before serving.
  • Grab already-prepped ingredient from the store – Buy deli rotisserie chicken, pre-shredded cheese, and already-cooked bacon or bacon bits from the store for extra easy prep.

Recipe Notes

Makes about 3o pinwheels.
If you don’t want to serve right away, wrap the tortilla roll in in plastic tightly (before slicing.) Then when ready to serve, slice and serve.
Substitutions:
  • Chicken: You can sub in shredded/diced cooked turkey if you like. Perfect for leftovers!
  • Cheddar: Feel free to swap in pepper jack, colby, or another favorite cheese.
  • Cream cheese: If you prefer, using light cream cheese also works well in these roll-ups.
  • Tortilla: Gluten-free or whole wheat tortillas will also work; just make sure they’re pliable enough to roll up easily.
How to Store: To make ahead, place unsliced rolls in an airtight container or secure in plastic wrap and refrigerate up to 4 days ahead of time. Slice before serving. To store leftovers, transfer to an airtight lidded container and keep in the fridge for up to 4 days.
How to Scale: This recipe can easily be doubled if you are feeding a crowd or halved for smaller portions.
