Ingredients + Substitutions
- Chicken wings – Use either fresh or frozen wings. If you are starting with frozen wings, be sure to thaw the wings for a few hours in the fridge first.
- Seasonings – Smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, & pepper.
- Butter – Melted butter is the base of the full-of-flavor Parm-garlic sauce. I prefer to use salted butter, but unsalted will work, too.
- Parmesan cheese – I like finely grated Parmesan cheese for these wings so that it covers every bit of the chicken wings.
- Garlic – Fresh minced garlic adds so much flavor.
- Parsley – For an herbaceous note and a touch of green.
Make sure to see the recipe card at the bottom of this post for the full quantities and ingredients list.
Recipe Variations
If you love this recipe as much as we do and want some quick ways to change it up for variety, these little tips will do the trick!
- Grilled Garlic Parmesan Wings – If you prefer to skip the slow cooker and break out the grill instead, grilled wings are great, too! Just grill them on a BBQ heated to 425°F for 15-20 minutes, flipping occasionally, until the internal temperature reaches 165°F. Toss cooked wings in sauce and serve!
- Honey Garlic Parmesan Wings – Add up to ⅓ cup of honey to the sauce for a sweet note that pairs so well with the savory flavors of these garlicky wings.
- Spicy Garlic Parmesan Wings – For spicy wings, add up to 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper and/or a pinch or two of crushed red peppers to the sauce.
Recipe Step by Step
I am going to highlight a few key steps in the recipe here, but make sure to jump down to the recipe card for comprehensive instructions on how to make Slow Cooker Garlic Parmesan Wings.
Add the wings to your Crock Pot and sprinkle with the seasonings. Stir until the wings are well-coated. Cover with the lid and cook.
Add the melted butter, Parmesan, garlic, and parsley to a large bowl.
Whisk the ingredients together until well-combined.
Transfer the cooked wings to the bowl with the sauce and toss to coat.
Transfer the wings to a baking sheet, leaving space on all sides.
Bake until golden, crisp, and fall-apart perfect. Brush with remaining sauce and sprinkle with more Parmesan if desired.
Recipe Tips
- Mix the seasonings in a bowl first – By mixing the ingredients in a small bowl before sprinkling them onto your wings, you can make sure the seasonings are evenly distributed.
- Don’t exceed the suggested cooking time – If you cook the wings in the slow cooker for longer than the recommended cooking time, they will become delicate, and they’ll be more likely to fall apart when handled.
- Dry your wings before tossing in the sauce – The drier the wings are, the better the sauce will stick, so use a slotted spoon and try to remove as much of the liquid as possible when transferring them from the slow cooker to the bowl.
- Leave space around the wings when baking – Allow for a small margin of space around each wing so that the air can circulate around them. This helps them get golden and crispy on all sides.
Recipe Short Cuts
If you need to make this recipe, but are extra short on time, here are a few ideas that can help make this recipe even faster!
- Slow-cook them ahead of time – To prep garlic Parmesan wings early, follow the recipe through to the point of slow cooking them, then cool and store in the fridge for up to 4 days. When you’re ready to serve them, proceed with adding the sauce and baking them.
- Cover your baking sheet – Place a layer of parchment paper or aluminum foil over your baking sheet before adding the wings. Then, after removing the wings, you can just peel it off and discard it. Dishes are done!
