Turkey Spinach Feta Burgers – The EASY Way!

One foolproof way of getting my kids to eat their veggies without complaint is by packing them into something familiar and delicious. Like these turkey burgers with spinach and feta for instance! It’s got everything parents want to serve their kids for dinner like lean protein and veggies, but it’s so darn tasty that you and the kids will forget it’s healthy after the first bite.

Greek flavors like feta cheese and herbs season the burger patties made from ground turkey and spinach. They’re irresistibly juicy, tender, and taste simply fantastic. If that wasn’t enough to convince you, they only take 20 minutes to get on the table, start to finish. So give it a go! Swap out your go to burgers and try these turkey spinach feta burgers as a fun new twist, and enjoy the bliss of your family happily eating, veggies and all.

Why I LOVE this recipe!

  • SO Fast & Easy! – It will only take 10 minutes to prep the 6 super simple ingredients, and another 10 to get them cooked!
  • Super Healthy – Turkey is a fantastic, low-fat, high protein meat and the spinach is cooked right in the patties so you get veggies with every bite.
  • Versatile! – Serve it as a classic burger, in a wrap, on a salad, or eat it with a knife and fork. Every way is delicious!
  • Perfect for Meal Prep – This recipe makes 10 burgers, so they’re perfect for getting ahead on lunches for the week or a quick reheated dinner another night. They’re even great for freezing!

What to Serve with Turkey Feta Spinach Burgers

Since this dish has the classic flavors of Greek food, it will pair well with many of your favorite salads and traditional side dishes. There are both classic options and some healthy options to keep it light.

Side Dish Ideas

  • Lemon Rice– My absolute favorite thing to serve these turkey burgers with!
  • Oven Roasted Green Vegetables – Whether you go with classic baked asparagus, or one of the five seasoning suggestions in my roasted brussels sprouts and roasted green beans recipes, these simple veggie sides are always perfect for dinner.
  • Sauteed Peppers and Onions – These can make a great burger topping or addition to a rice bowl along with your burgers.
  • Garlic Mixed Vegetables – This winning side dish is a family FAVORITE. It’s so easy and always SO good.
  • Oven Baked Potato Wedges – Everyone loves a burger and fries, and these homemade wedges always do the trick.
  • Mediterranean Chickpea Salad – Enhance the Greek flavors in your turkey spinach feta burgers with a salad made with complimentary flavors like tomato, peppers, and balsamic.
  • Classic Cucumber Tomato Salad – Cool, crisp, and refreshing are great ways to think about this super easy, light, and healthy side salad.
  • Green Salad – A green salad with your favorite toppings and a simple balsamic dressing or red wine vinaigrette is a great compliment to a spinach turkey burger. Even go bun-less and make the burger part of the salad too!
  • Rice – A simple bed of white or brown rice is great with these burgers.

You can choose one or add a few sides to make a wholesome, well rounded dinner.

Recipe Notes

This spinach turkey burger recipe is as simple as promised! Just 20 minutes and 6 ingredients for a family friendly meal.

In this section I am going to go through a few tips and tricks I use when making this recipe to get the absolute best and most delicious results.

ingredients to make turkey spinach feta burgers including Greek seasoning, oil, feta cheese, and frozen spinach.

Ingredients + Substitutions

  • Ground Turkey – We used the 93% lean/7 % fat ground turkey for this recipe, but it will work with any type you buy.
  • Greek Seasoning – Making a homemade Greek seasoning is easy, but you can buy one pre-mixed at most grocery stores. Cavender’s is a brand we know and trust!
  • Egg – 1 large egg is needed for moisture and flavor. In a pinch, swap in 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise, or 2 tablespoons of plain greek yogurt.
  • Spinach – I recommend frozen spinach for the easiest prep, and always use chopped if I can find it. You can use 1 1/2 pounds of fresh spinach instead, but you’ll need to cook it down by making sauteed spinach before making this recipe.
  • Feta Cheese – You can use any feta cheese you like. Some are wetter than others, so blot it off before crumbling if you need to.
  • Olive Oil – Any kind of cooking oil will do, but we like olive oil.
how to cook turkey burgers with feta and spinach 1)add ingredients to a bowl 2)mix well 3)form and cook 4)serve.

Recipe Tips

  1. Use chopped spinach – One of the tricks in getting your kids to eat spinach packed turkey burgers is making sure the spinach is chopped up and well incorporated. Buying pre-chopped spinach makes that easy and ensures it’s nicely spread out. If you can’t find it, just take a moment to chop the spinach you have before adding it to the turkey.
  2. Thaw and REALLY drain your spinach – You want to get rid of all the extra moisture before mixing the spinach in with the meat. Thaw it completely, then squeeze all the water that you can out before adding it in.
  3. Don’t skip the egg – Egg in burgers might make you think of meatloaf, but turkey is nothing like beef! In a turkey burger recipe like this one, egg is a binding agent that stops if from being crumbly, plus it adds flavor and fat that lean turkey doesn’t have. It’s absolutely key in having juicy burgers.
  4. Make more or less – For our family this makes 10, 1/3 pound patties, and they’re just the right size! But you can absolutely make them bigger or smaller to suit your needs and tastes. Make them slider sized or even into meatballs, just make sure you cook them properly, which might require less or more cooking time than originally called for.
  5. Get the pan HOT – Using a really hot cooking surface will help create that crisp, caramelized golden brown exterior that adds amazing flavor and texture to the burgers.
  6. Cook to 165°F – Turkey needs to be cooked to 165°F in order to be safe to eat. I recommend a meat thermometer if you don’t have one already to make it easy to check. They’re cheap and easy to find at most grocery stores.
  7. Use a grill or stove top – The choice is yours! Cook them on a pan inside or for the same amount of time on your outdoor BBQ for a great grilled dinner.

Recipe Short Cuts

If you need to make this recipe, but are extra short on time, here are a few ideas that can help make this recipe even faster!

  • Mix ahead– You can mix the turkey, spinach, and feta together up to 24 hours in advance. Keep it chilled and in the fridge until ready to form and cook.
  • Form the patties in advance– Form the patties in advance and store them covered in the fridge until you’re ready to cook. They’ll keep for up to 1 day.
  • Use a griddle – Cooking 10 patties might require 2 batches of cooking if you use a small pan. Instead, cut down on cooking time by using a large griddle or your grill to knock them all out at once.

Recipe Variations

If you love this recipe as much as we do and want some quick ways to change it up for variety, these little tips will do the trick!

  • Turkey Spinach Feta Burgers with Sundried Tomatoes– Add another burst of Mediterranean flavor by finely dicing sundried tomatoes and incorporating it into the ground turkey mixture before cooking. Make the rest of the recipe as directed.
  • Chicken Spinach Feta Burgers– Replace the ground turkey with ground chicken and make the rest of the recipe as written.
  • Spinach Turkey Burgers with Parmesan– Swap out feta cheese for equal amounts of shredded parmesan cheese. Continue with the cooking instructions once mixed.

Freezer Meal Instructions

Making this turkey spinach feta burger recipe into a freezer meal is simple! Follow the steps below and you can store this recipe in the freezer for up to 6 months.

  1. Make the recipe up through forming the patties.
  2. Freeze flat on a freezer safe surface.
  3. Transfer to a freezer safe bag or container once frozen.
  4. To cook place frozen patties in a preheated pan with oil over medium heat.
  5. Flip twice, cooking for 12-14 minutes total until cooked through.

Turkey Spinach Feta Burger Leftovers

If you have leftovers after making turkey burgers with spinach and feta, then it is your lucky day! They save and reheat well, and can make the start of another delicious dish.

To save leftovers, separate into meal sized portions and then place in an airtight container and store:

  • in the refrigerator for 3-4 days
  • in the freezer up to a month

Leftover Recipes

Here are a few ways to repurpose those leftovers and give them a delicious makeover!

  • Greek Turkey Burger Rice Bowls– Reheat the burgers and chop them up, then place them over cooked rice with cucumbers, tomatoes, olives, chickpeas, and tzatziki sauce. Serve immediately.
  • Spinach Feta Turkey Salad– Chop leftover spinach turkey burgers and arrange with thinly sliced red onion, cucumbers, tomatoes, and kalamata olives on a bed of baby greens. Drizzle with my perfect lemon vinaigrette or a classic red wine vinaigrette and serve.
  • Turkey Spinach Feta Pasta Bake– Cook your choice of pasta according to package instructions. Drain and combine with chopped leftover turkey spinach feta burgers, 1/4 cup of chopped sun dried tomatoes, 1/2 cup of plain Greek yogurt, and 1/2 cup of softened cream cheese. Place in a casserole dish and top with additional feta cheese and bake at 350°F until hot throughout, about 20 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground turkey, (I use 93/7 lean ground turkey)
  • 1 tablespoon greek seasoning, Cavenders or homemade
  • 1 egg
  • 10 ounces frozen spinach, thawed
  • 5 ounces feta cheese, crumbled
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  • Squeeze the spinach to release as much moisture as possible.
  • In a large bowl, combine all ingredients, except olive oil. Use your hands to work the meat mixture until everything is evenly distributed throughout.
  • Form the mixture into 1/3 pound patties, about 1 inch thick.
  • Heat a large skillet over medium heat with half of the olive oil. Once hot, place patties in the skillet and cook without turning for 4-5 minutes. Flip and cook for 4-5 on the other side or until the burger is cooked through 165˚F internal temperature.
Remove the patties and cook any remaining turkey burger patties in the same way adding remaining olive oil as needed.
Alternately the burgers can be cooked on a grill for 4-5 minutes per side.
  • Once done serve on buns, in a pita, wrapped in lettuce, or in a bowl. Enjoy!
