Recipe Step by Step
I am going to highlight a few key steps in the recipe here, but make sure to jump down to the recipe card for comprehensive instructions on how to make this Easy Chicken Tostada Recipe.

In a medium bowl, combine chicken, salsa, and taco seasoning. In a separate bowl, whisk together sour cream and lime juice.

Line 6 tostada shells on a baking sheet, then spread each with a layer of refried beans.

To each tostada, layer on cheese, a scoop of the chicken mixture, then additional cheese if you like.

Bake for 8-10 minutes at 410ºF, then top with lettuce, pico, and the lime/sour cream mixture. Serve and enjoy!
Recipe Tips
- Use leftover chicken – If you have leftover cooked chicken on-hand, this is a great way to use that up! I love to make these using my Mexican Chicken Marinade or Mexican Style Chicken Thighs.
- Double layer the cheese! – A layer of cheese before and after the meat helps the toppings stick to the tostada shells. Who can resist extra cheesiness anyway?!
- Serve immediately – I recommend serving these right away after baking to maintain the crunchiness of the shells. If you’re not enjoying right away, you can prep everything, but keep your ingredients separate until you’re ready to eat.
Recipe Short Cuts
If you need to make this recipe, but are extra short on time, here are a few ideas that can help make this recipe even faster!
- Use rotisserie chicken – You can absolutely cook your own chicken, but pre-cooked rotisserie chicken cuts some serious prep time off of this recipe.
- Prep your recipe components ahead of time – Shred the chicken, prepare the beans, chop your veggies, etc., then store everything in the refrigerator until you’re ready to assemble your tostadas!
