Recipe Notes

This Buffalo Chicken Flatbread recipe is as simple as promised! Just 7 ingredients for a family friendly meal.

In this section I am going to go through a few tips and tricks I use for how to make Buffalo Chicken Flatbread Pizza to get the absolute best and most delicious results.

Make sure to scroll to the bottom for the FULL recipe card.

Ingredients + Substitutions

Ingredients for buffalo chicken flatbread including naan flatbread, buffalo sauce, cheddar cheese, blue cheese, ranch dressing and chicken.
  • Flatbread – You’ll want flatbreads that are approximately 8 inches in diameter. I love to use naan for these buffalo chicken flatbreads.
  • Ranch dressing – This is the creamy sauce on your flatbread, plus you’ll want a little more to drizzle on top. Make buttermilk ranch at home, or use store-bought – your choice!
  • Cheddar cheese – For the best melting, I suggest shredding it yourself – but if you are in a hurry, pre-shredded cheddar will work fine.
  • Blue cheese crumbles – You’ll find tubs of crumbled blue cheese in the deli or cheese section at your local grocery store.
  • Buffalo sauce – Grab your favorite brand.
  • Green onions – Also known as scallions, sliced green onions add fresh flavor and a pretty bit of color.

Make sure to see the recipe card at the bottom of this post for the full quantities and ingredients list.

Recipe Variations

If you love this recipe as much as we do and want some quick ways to change it up for variety, these little tips will do the trick!

  • Buffalo Cauliflower Flatbread– Buffalo cauliflower has been having a moment for awhile, and for good reason! If you have any vegetarians at the table or are just craving an extra dose of veggies, replace the chicken with roasted cauliflower.
  • Extra Spicy Buffalo Chicken Flatbread Pizza– Increase the heat by stirring a generous dash of cayenne pepper or crushed red pepper flakes into your buffalo sauce before drizzling it on. You can also add a dash of Tabasco or another hot sauce, of course. Slice fresh jalapeños or other the peppers and layer them over the cooked pizza for another spicy touch.
  • Large Buffalo Chicken Pizza– Make one big family-size pizza by adding the toppings to one large pizza crust, either store bought or homemade.
  • Mini Buffalo Chicken Flatbread Pizzas– On the flip side, you can make these flatbread pizzas into more of an appetizer situation by using mini naan bread!

Recipe Step by Step

I am going to highlight a few key steps in the recipe here, but make sure to jump down to the recipe card for comprehensive instructions on how to make Buffalo Chicken Flatbread.

The first step of making buffalo chicken flatbread

Place the flatbreads on a baking sheet and spread the ranch over each one.

Two buffalo chicken flatbreads are on a baking sheet, with cheese and chicken.

Sprinkle with shredded cheddar and top with shredded chicken.

Top each flatbread buffalo chicken pizza with blue cheese crumbles and drizzle evenly with buffalo sauce.

Bake until the cheese is melted and the edges of the flatbread are golden. Garnish with green onions and drizzle with more ranch, then cut into wedges and serve.

Recipe Tips

  1. Use a thick & sturdy flatbread – I love to use naan for my flatbread pizzas because it holds up to the toppings. Pita breads work great, too.
  2. Cook on high heat – When you bake these pizzas on high heat (425ºF), it ensures the toppings warm through quickly. Cooking it too long at a lower temperature can make the crust soggy.
  3. Scale as needed – It’s really easy to cut this recipe in half or double (or even triple) to feed a crowd.

Recipe Short Cuts

If you need to make this recipe, but are extra short on time, here are a few ideas that can help make this recipe even faster!

  • Use blue cheese dressing – Swap the ranch with blue cheese dressing, then skip the crumbles. This swap gives you creaminess + blue cheese flavor with just one ingredient instead of two.
  • Go with rotisserie chicken – Shred up some grocery store rotisserie chicken for these Buffalo chicken flatbread pizzas. It’s delicious and easy!
  • Use pre-shredded cheese – While the cheddar might not melt quite as well as if you shred it yourself, it’s a perfectly acceptable substitute in a pinch, and can save you a few minutes and a few dishes. Can’t beat the convenience!
  • Meal prep ahead of time – Chop your onions and shred your cheeses and chicken, then store them separately in the fridge ahead of time. That’ll make these flatbreads even faster to assemble when it’s time to eat.

Making this Buffalo Chicken Flatbread recipe into a freezer meal is simple! Follow the steps below and you can store this recipe in the freezer for up to 6 months.

To freeze before cooking

  1. Assemble the pizza on the baking sheet as directed, up until the point of baking.
  2. Place the baking sheet with the pizzas into the freezer. Freeze until hard.
  3. When the pizza is frozen, wrap tightly in plastic wrap and foil. Keep in the freezer for up to 6 months.
  4. To cook, thaw overnight in the fridge then bake as directed.
