This is the easiest baked chicken marsala recipes around.  It combines all the classical flavors of the original recipe into a one pan meal.  I love this dish because my kids were asking for seconds before I was even finished with my plate.  Not only is this recipe full of flavor, but it is easy and simple to make!

The Baked Chicken Marsala Recipe

I always have these grand ideas of a recipe I want to try and create, but most of the time I’m not sure how it is going to turn out.  But when you open up that oven and look at your dish, you know everyone is going to love it and you’ve done a good thing.  Well…. that’s what happened to this recipe.

I love chicken marsala and order it often when we go out.  I have made tender chicken marsala a number of times but it is not a simple weeknight meal.  I really wanted to make this more accessible so I could make his favorite meal on more of a regular rotation.

This is not an authentic chicken marsala recipe but it does have the flavors as if it were.  I thought for a long time on how I could make this work with a few substitutions, and let’s just say my kids approved 100 %.  I am excited to share my ONE dish easy chicken marsala recipe with you!

What is Chicken Marsala?

If you’re not quite sure what is in chicken marsala you’re not the only one.  Chicken marsala is a delicious blend of mushrooms and dry marsala wine serve over chicken.  This dish is usually served with a side of mashed potatoes.  The sauce is thin, delicate and full of delicious marsala flavor.

This dish is usually made on the stove top using a skillet, but I wanted to make it easier for you by combining it all in one large dish to bake in the oven.

Recipe Step by Step

I am going to highlight a few key steps in the recipe here, but make sure to jump down to the recipe card for comprehensive instructions on how to make Baked Chicken Marsala.

Super simple and super delicious!! You will not be disappointed.

First step image combining all the ingredients for baked chicken marsala in a bowl.

In a large mixing bowl, combine mushrooms, soup, 1/3 cup marsala wine, 1/2 cup parmesan cheese, garlic powder, salt and pepper.

Second step image showing how to mix the ingredients in a bowl.

Mix the ingredients.

Third step image placing four chicken breast in a baking dish.

Lay the chicken breasts flat in a baking dish.

Last step image that shows the marsala mixture being spread over top of the chicken breasts in a baking dish.

Spread that delicious mixture over top of the chicken breasts.  Top with remaining 1/2 cup of parmesan cheese and bake.

Can I use different cuts of chicken?

Yes!! Other cuts of chicken will work just fine in this dish. You can use tenderloins, chicken cutlets or chicken thighs  The cooking time will most likely be reduced in these cases.  When the dish is done the chicken will be 160˚F internally.

Can I make this dish healthier?

This dish is generally a wholesome dish.  It is loaded with protein, low calorie and full of delicious flavors.  I usually up the veggies by serving the dish with a veggies my children enjoy.  Optionally, you can use a low fat cream of chicken soup, but I think the dish turns out much better with the original cream of chicken.

Is this dish gluten free?

This dish can be gluten free if you use gluten free cream of chicken soup and serve with gluten free side dishes.  Most of my recipes can be modified to fit dietary concerns.

What to Serve with Baked Chicken Marsala

A question I get asked over and over is what to serve with most of my dishes.  This dish stays true to the classic flavors so I will share our favorite sides.

Classic Serving Options for Baked Chicken Marsala

  • On top of Garlic Mashed Potatoes– my families favorite choice this recipe is for an instant pot but can be adapted to using the stove.
  • With your choice of Pasta- Our favorite is Ziti or Bowtie Pasta
  • On top of Rice-  We always use Jasmine because of it’s delicious flavor.
  • Baked Potatoes

Low Carb Serving Options for Baked Chicken Marsala

  • Mashed Cauliflower
  • Sautéed Cauliflower
  • Sautéed Spinach
  • Roasted Garlic Broccoli

Add veggies to the meal and you have a delicious wholesome dinner.  Here are our favorites:

  • Garlic Asparagus
  • Sautéed Green Beans
  • Side Salad with a healthy vinaigrette
  • Or any roasted veggies of your choice

What to do with leftovers of Baked Chicken Marsala

If you have any leftovers after you have finished up dinner then here are a few ways to store them.

How to store Baked Chicken Marsala

You can store the leftover Baked Chicken Marsala in an air tight storage container for 3-5 days in the refrigerator.  I like to portion my leftovers in containers for a quick lunch.

How to freeze Baked Chicken Marsala

You can freeze this either before or after cooking.  To freeze before cooking, mix the sauce and place it in one freezer bag, then put the chicken in a separate bag.  When you are ready to cook, thaw everything, remix the sauce and assemble and bake as directed.  To freeze after cooking, store in an airtight container in meal sized portions and place in the freezer for up to a month.

I hope this dish makes it into your regular meal rotation.

I LOVE this easy recipe! It’s part of our monthly rotation. All the flavors are present, throw in the oven (along side of roasted veggies), relax with glass of wine… then dinner is served. So good ❤️ Thank you

Thrilled it turned out so well. I served over pasta. My husband wants to try it next time over rice. That will go well with the gravy. I am not a great cook but I am trying. I found your recipe on pinterest and look forward to trying others. It had a slightly garlicy after taste. Was it due to the garlic powder or because my garlic powder may have been old? Is there another way to do the garlic? I didn’t let the negative review put me off an dI am so glad.
    Thanks!!!

About the salt. I used low-sodium chicken soup and it was perfect.

i just found your site and love the concept of easy family dinners. I am looking forward to trying this recipe. I thought you might want to check out the sodium content in the nutrition info. It may need a decimal. Thanks! I’ll come back and rate when I try the recipe.

Strange you only have 5 star reviews… 2nd, this dish was never meant to have cheese on/in/with it. Grats on making something easy a tad easier.

Didn’t hate it but not what I remember to be the classic.

GL on your future hybrids. Also maybe have a review that’s not 5 star?

PPS: ditch some of the ads. Had to close 4 while writing this.

Hi- I see that you left a fake name, fake email, and some pointed accusations, but in case there are other readers going through the comments I figured I would add my thoughts.I in no way manipulate the comments or ratings for my site. I always want people to be able to share their honest opinions and others to be able to get a true understanding of what the recipe is. If you go to some other recipes on my site with more ratings like my Million Dollar Chicken or the Green Chile Chicken recipe, you will see all sorts of opinions published in the comment section.

I clearly state in the introduction that this is not an authentic recipe, but one re-created to give you the flavor of chicken marsala in a quicker and easier format. My website is called Easy Family Recipes, that is because the whole point of it is to offer my readers a way to find really yummy recipes that can be made quickly. I love to help busy families get dinner on the table so that they can spend more time together. I think this recipe really achieves that and it is also one that my family really enjoys.

If you are looking for authentic recipes that do not take into account ease or ability to make in a reasonable amount of time for a busy night, I would recommend using other websites that specialize in that type of cuisine.

I really wanted Chicken Marsala for my family dinner, but it’s a lot of work – especially when making it for 12 people. Found this recipe and it was delicious. I made a few tweeks. Since I would be doubling it, I used one can of cream of chicken and one can of cream of bacon. I also cut my chicken into 3-4oz pieces which made it really easy to serve. Finally, I browned 6oz of prosciutto and sprinkled it on top just before serving. You’ll want to let this sit for at least 10 minutes before attempting to serve. It will give the juice some time to thicken up. And make sure you’re serving it with some kind of starch – the gravy is delicious and you’ll want something to soak it up with.

Made this for my family tonight and it was delicious! I prepped it beforehand and then just put it in the oven half an hour before mealtime and it was so delicious and so so easy. I was skeptical it wasn’t going to be good it was so easy but I was delighted with the outcome. I used one very large clove of garlic instead of garlic powder. This is definitely going in my regular rotation, especially when family and friends come over!
