Ingredients + Substitutions

ingredients for whipped feta and honey.
  • Feta Cheese

Make sure to see the recipe card at the bottom of this post for the full quantities and ingredients list.

Recipe Variations

If you love this recipe as much as we do and want some quick ways to change it up for variety, these little tips will do the trick!

  • Whipped Feta with Hot Honey – Swap the regular honey out for hot honey for a kick of heat.
  • Whipped Feta Dip with Honey and Pistachios – Give your appetizer a little bit of texture and crunch by sprinkling the top with chopped pistachios.

Recipe Step by Step

I am going to highlight a few key steps in the recipe here, but make sure to jump down to the recipe card for comprehensive instructions on how to make Whipped Feta with Honey.

Drizzle honey and olive oil into the ridges, then garnish with basil and/or roasted tomatoes and garlic. Serve and enjoy!

Recipe Tips

  1. Get the good stuff! – Since this recipe is made up of so few ingredients, I like to get high quality ingredients to make sure I’m getting the best possible flavors.
  2. Blend until smooth – We want light and fluffy; not grainy. Make sure you blend your feta and yogurt really well for that perfect texture.

Recipe Short Cuts

If you need to make this recipe, but are extra short on time, here are a few ideas that can help make this recipe even faster!

  • Blend in advance – You can blend the feta dip ingredients a couple of days before serving and store it in the fridge. When you’re ready to enjoy, simply spread it into a dish, add the honey and olive oil, and dig in.
  • Roast the tomatoes ahead of time – If you’re making the roasted tomato version of this appetizer, you can prepare the tomatoes up to 2 days ahead of serving. That way they’re ready to go when you assemble your dip.

Whipped Feta Dip Leftovers

If you have leftovers after making this recipe, then it is your lucky day! They save and reheat well, and can make the start of another delicious dish.

To save leftovers, separate into meal sized portions and then place in an airtight container and store:

  • in the refrigerator for 3-4 days
  • in the freezer up to a month

Recipe FAQ’s

Can you freeze whipped feta?

I don’t recommend it! The light and creamy texture of this dip won’t hold up once frozen and thawed. Serve within a couple of days for the best results.

How do you eat whipped feta cheese?

It is usually used as a dip with pita bread, crackers, spread on toast, sandwiches, and even pasta. You can also dip vegetables into it!

Ingredients

  • 8 ounce block feta
  • 3/4 cup greek yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons honey, plus more for drizzle
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 8 basil leaves

Optional Roasted Tomato Topping

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil, plus more for drizzle
  • 4 ounces cherry tomatoes
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

Instructions

To make the whipped feta dip:

  • In a food processor, combine the feta cheese, greek yogurt, honey, and lemon juice.
  • Turn on food processor to high, or puree setting to blend the feta mixture until smooth.
  • Use a spatula to scrape the dip out of the food processor and onto a shallow dish or plate. Smooth the top and then add a swirl to create ridges. Drizzle olive oil and honey into the ridges.
  • Garnish with freshly chopped basil, then serve with chips.

For the Roasted Tomato Topping (optional)

  • Preheat the oven to 350˚F.
  • In a small baking dish, add the tomatoes and garlic. Drizzle 1 tablespoon of olive oil over the tomatoes then stir to coat everything.
  • Bake for 8-12 minutes or until the tomatoes begin to burst. Once out of the oven, use a spoon to place the tomatoes over the top of the whipped feta dip.

Equipment

  • 1 Food processor

Recipe Notes

Optional tomato topping: This dip is equally good with or without the tomato topping. When you serve it without the tomato topping it is sweeter and creamier.  With the tomato topping it leans more savory and has more texture. I had a really hard time deciding which I liked better, so I decided to make the topping optional, depending on what you are craving that day!
