4. Bake for 15 minutes per pound of turkey. Once browned perfectly, tent foil over the turkey breast and continue to cook until the internal temperature reaches 165ºF. Rest for 10 minutes, then serve!

Recipe Tips

  1. Use bone-in turkey – Bone-in turkey stays more moist and juicy as it roasts, and the flavor is better!
  2. Bring the turkey to room temperature – Before roasting, let the turkey sit out on the counter for 20 minutes or so to bring it to room temp. This helps it cook more evenly in the oven.
  3. Cover with foil after 60 minutes – Once the exterior of the turkey is browned to your liking, make sure you cover it with foil while it continues to cook. This allows the inside to get nice and tender without burning the exterior.
  4. Check the temp – Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature of the turkey before serving. It should be 165ºF!

Recipe Short Cuts

If you need to make this recipe, but are extra short on time, here are a few ideas that can help make this recipe even faster!

Recipe FAQ’s

How do you cook turkey breast without drying it out?

There are a few things we’re doing to be sure we’re keeping our turkey juicy and moist even as it roasts in the oven:

1. Using bone-in turkey. The bone helps prevent the meat from overcooking and keeps the flavor rich and delicious.
2. Covering after an hour! The first hour of cooking crisps the exterior of the turkey breast. Once that’s done, we’ll cover it with foil to allow the inside to keep cooking without drying out the outside.
3. Not over-cooking. Once the turkey reaches 165ºF internally, then it’s done. Extra time in the oven after that will just dry it out.

How long should you cook turkey breast in the oven?

As a general rule, turkey should roast in the oven for 15 minutes per every pound of turkey.

Do I cover my turkey breast when baking?

Yes! But not until the outside of the turkey breast is browned just right. Once it’s crisped and browned, you’ll tent with foil to prevent burning while the inside of the turkey continues to heat.

  • Once done, let rest for 10 minutes, then carve and serve.
