  • Cuban Sliders Recipe

I’m such a huge fan of sliders! They’re so easy to make, perfect for feeding a crowd, and they always turn out delicious.

I especially adore this easy spin on Cuban sandwiches: Cuban sandwich sliders on Hawaiian Rolls! Complete with buttery soft rolls, pulled pork, smoky ham, lots of melted cheese, and, of course, sliced pickles, they’re so good (and the mayo-mustard spread seals the deal!)

Cuban sliders with Hawaiian rolls are SO easy to make. Just take the entire sheet of rolls, slice them in half horizontally, and build one giant sandwich that, after baking, you can cut apart and serve separately. So simple!

Why I LOVE this recipe!

  • Ooey gooey deliciousness – Soft, slightly sweet Hawaiian rolls … salty ham … melted cheese … tangy dill pickles. The combination is so good!
  • Feeds a crowd – Make up a batch to go along with other appetizers, or scale up with multiple pans to feed a crowd. These easy Cuban sliders are guaranteed to be a hit on your next game day or tailgater (but they make a terrific easy family dinner recipe, too!)
  • Easy way to enjoy Cuban sandwich flavors – No need to find Cuban bread or build and press one sandwich at a time.
  • Kid friendly – With classic ham and cheese elements, kids tend to love these Cuban sandwich sliders. If they’re not so sure about pickles, you can just leave a few off of the end of your sliders and serve the pickle-free version to the kids.

Recipe Notes

This Hawaiian Roll Cuban Sliders recipe is as simple as promised! Just a 9 ingredients and 22 minutes for family friendly sandwiches.

In this section I am going to go through a few tips and tricks I use for how to make Hawaiian Roll Cuban Sliders to get the absolute best and most delicious results.

Make sure to scroll to the bottom for the FULL recipe card.

Ingredients + Substitutions

Ingredients for Hawaiian Roll Cuban Sliders
  • Hawaiian rolls – Slightly sweet, pillowy Hawaiian rolls are perfect for sliders. If you prefer, a sheet of dinner rolls or Brioche rolls will work instead.
  • Ham – Grab thinly sliced ham from the deli section of your local grocery store.
  • Pulled pork – Make my Crock Pot Pulled Pork or, for even easier sliders, you can pick up pulled pork at most grocery stores.
  • Swiss cheese – Thinly sliced Swiss cheese can be found in the deli section or cheese section.
  • Mayonnaise – Grab your favorite brand of mayonnaise.
  • Mustard – Same goes with mustard. Your favorite brand of standard yellow mustard is great!
  • Pickles – Sliced dill pickles, sometimes labeled “Hamburger Dill Chips,” are perfect for Cuban sliders.
  • Butter & garlic salt – For brushing the tops of your rolls, giving a golden, buttery finish.

Make sure to see the recipe card at the bottom of this post for the full quantities and ingredients list.

Recipe Variations

If you love this recipe as much as we do and want some quick ways to change it up for variety, these little tips will do the trick!

  • Spicy Cuban Sliders – Add hot pepper rings along with–or instead of–the pickles and add 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper or several drops of Tabasco to the mayo/mustard spread.
  • Everything Cuban Sliders – Sprinkle everything seasoning mix over the tops of your King’s Hawaiian Cuban Sliders before baking.
  • Extra Cheesy Cuban Sliders – Add slices of cheddar cheese in addition to the Swiss for more cheesy goodness.
  • Dairy-Free Cuban Sliders – Omit the Swiss cheese and brush with dairy-free butter or margarine. They’ll still be delicious! You can also swap in a vegan/dairy-free Swiss cheese instead.

Recipe Step by Step

I am going to highlight a few key steps in the recipe here, but make sure to jump down to the recipe card for comprehensive instructions on how to make Hawaiian Roll Cuban Sliders.

Step one of making Hawaiian Roll Cuban Sliders, spread the mayo-mustard on the sheet of rolls.

Cut the Hawaiian rolls horizontally and place the bottom on a baking sheet. Combine the mayo and mustard; spread it over the top.

Ham is placed on top of the rolls while making Hawaiian Roll Cuban Sliders.

Layer on the ham, evenly spreading it all over the bottom layer of the rolls.

Pulled pork is placed on top of the ham for Hawaiian Roll Cuban Sliders.

Top the ham with pulled pork, spread evenly.

Cheese and pickles are placed on Hawaiian Roll Cuban Sliders.

Add a layer of Swiss cheese then place a pickle in the middle of each slider.

The top layer of rolls is placed on top of Hawaiian Roll Cuban Sliders and brushed with garlic butter.

Mix together the melted butter and garlic salt and brush it evenly over the tops of the rolls with a pastry brush.

Hawaiian Roll Cuban Sliders on a sheet of foil, baked and ready to serve.

Top the rolls with a sheet of aluminum foil, then set a second baking sheet on top to slightly flatten the sliders. Bake until heated through.

Recipe Tips

  1. Use a rimmed baking sheet – This way it will catch any extra melted butter instead of it dripping into your oven.
  2. Cut into sandwiches last – Bake the sliders all together then cut them into separate sandwiches at the very end. This will help them hold together while baking – and makes sliders a cinch!
  3. Don’t skip the foil layer – This will help make clean-up so much easier.

Recipe Short Cuts

If you need to make this recipe, but are extra short on time, here are a few ideas that can help make this recipe even faster!

  • Buy everything pre-sliced – From the ham to the cheese to the pickles, when you buy it all pre-sliced, it makes assembly a breeze.
  • Prep ahead of time – Assemble your Cuban sandwich sliders up to the point of baking them, then wrap them tightly and refrigerate for up to one day ahead of time. When you’re ready to eat them, pull them out of the fridge, unwrap, and proceed with the recipe.

Recipe FAQ’s

Why use Hawaiian rolls for Cuban sliders?

Sweet, soft Hawaiian rolls are perfect for so many slider recipes, and these Cuban sliders are no exception! Cuban bread, traditionally used for Cuban sandwiches, is slightly sweet, so Hawaiian rolls work perfectly. They also press down easily for authentic pressed Cuban sandwich vibes.

What is in a traditional Cuban sandwich?

Invented over 100 years ago in Florida, Cuban sandwiches are a popular variation on classic ham and cheese! They’re made with pork, ham, cheese, and pickle slices on toasted Cuban bread.

These are outstanding! I buttered the pan first, then assembled the sandwiches, topping off with the butter/garlic powder mixture. That way when you follow the rest of the instructions the bottom gets crispy too, just like a pressed sandwich! Sooo good! I liked this recipe because others used Dijon and Worcestershire sauce and that IS NOT used on a Cuban sandwich.
