These Cookies and Cream Rice Krispie Treats are one of my favorite desserts to bring to potlucks and parties. They’re always a crowd pleaser. The challenge is getting them out of our house first, because my family loves them, too!

Why I LOVE this recipe!

  • Rice Krispie treats, elevated – Desserts using Rice Krispies are delicious, sure – but add Oreos and they’re next-level!
  • Simple & quick no-bake treat – These Rice Krispie Treats with Oreos only need a handful of ingredients and take a few minutes to make. No baking needed! I love how quickly they come together.
  • Crowd-friendly dessert – It doesn’t get any more popular than Rice Krispie treats with Oreos!

Ingredients + Substitutions

Ingredients for Cookies & Cream Rice Krispie Treats
  • Butter – I like to start with salted butter for a bit of extra flavor. If you only have unsalted butter, I recommend adding an additional 1/8 teaspoon of salt.
  • Mini marshmallows – You’ll need one bag of mini marshmallows.
  • Vanilla extract – The vanilla adds an extra touch of warm, sweet flavor that is so good!
  • Salt – Just a small amount of table salt or fine-grain sea salt enhances the flavors in this Oreo Rice Krispie treat recipe.
  • Oreos – You’ll need 12 Oreos.
  • Rice Krispies – You’ll need 6 cups of Rice Krispies, which is about half of a box of cereal.

Make sure to see the recipe card at the bottom of this post for the full quantities and ingredients list.

Recipe Variations

If you love this recipe as much as we do and want some quick ways to change it up for variety, these little tips will do the trick!

  • Golden Oreo Rice Krispie Treats– Swap in Golden Oreos for an extra vanilla-y cookies and cream treat.
  • Chocolate-Drizzled Cookies & Cream Rice Krispie Treats– Drizzle equal amounts of melted milk chocolate and white chocolate over the top of the bars. Let cool and harden before cutting.
  • Chocolate Cookies & Cream Rice Krispie Treats– Instead of plain Rice Krispies, swap in Cocoa Krispies cereal for an extra dose of chocolate.

Recipe Step by Step

I am going to highlight a few key steps in the recipe here, but make sure to jump down to the recipe card for comprehensive instructions on how to make Cookies and Cream Rice Krispie Treats.

Crushing the Oreo cookies for Cookies & Cream Rice Krispie Treats

Place the Oreos into a zip-top bag and crush them with a rolling pin or meat mallet.

Melting the butter for Cookies & Cream Rice Krispie Treats

Place the butter into a large pot. Set the heat to medium and melt the butter.

Adding the vanilla to the marshmallows for Cookies & Cream Rice Krispie Treats

As soon as the butter has melted, add the marshmallows. Stir until completely melted. Stir in the vanilla. Remove from the heat.

Mixing together the ingredients for Cookies & Cream Rice Krispie Treats

Stir in the Rice Krispies and the Oreo crumbs. Spread the mix into your baking dish, chill, then cut into squares.

Recipe Tips

  1. Spray the pan with non-stick spray – This will help your Oreo Rice Krispie squares release easily from the pan.
  2. Press the treats into the pan gently – Avoid packing them too tightly into the pan as this can result in hard and dense squares.
  3. Line the pan with parchment paper or foil – This step is optional, but when you line your pan before adding the Oreo Rice Krispies treat mixture, it can help with releasing the treats from the pan and it makes clean-up a cinch.

Recipe Short Cuts

If you need to make this recipe, but are extra short on time, here are a few ideas that can help make this recipe even faster!

  • Crush the Oreos ahead of time – If you know you’re going to be making these treats but will be short on time, you can always crush your Oreos ahead of time and store them in the pantry until you’re ready to make them.
  • Chill in the fridge – These Oreo Rice Krispie treats can be placed in the fridge to set, saving about 15 minutes.

Cookies and Cream Rice Krispie Treats Leftovers

If you have leftovers after making this recipe, then it is your lucky day! They save well, and can be shared with friends or enjoyed throughout the week.

The best way to store these Rice Krispie treats is to place in an airtight container or zip top bag, placing wax or parchment paper between layers if stacked.

  • on the counter for 3-4 day
  • in the refrigerator up to a week
  • in the freezer for up to 3 months. (I recommend you individually wrap or pack them so you can take one without having to thaw all of them at once)

Recipe Notes

Substitutions:
  • Mini marshmallows: If you only have full-size marshmallows, those will work, too. They will take longer to melt, however, and you’ll want to melt them over low heat so they don’t overcook.
How to Store: Cover with plastic wrap or place in an airtight storage container and store at room temp.Β
How to Freeze: This Oreo Rice Krispie Treats recipe freezes well. See β€œhow to freeze” section in the original post for full instructions.
How to Scale: ex. This recipe can easily be doubled if you are feeding a crowd (I suggest scaling up to a 9×13 pan) or halved for smaller portions.
