Quick and Easy Asian Turkey Meatballs

My kids truly love meatballs so finding different ways to prepare them is my goal. We love all the flavors associated with asian food. These meatballs are the perfect combination of those flavors.

Make sure you check out these other popular meatball recipes on my sites, Homemade Italian Turkey Meatballs, Crockpot Grape Jelly Meatballs, and Buffalo Ranch Chicken Meatballs, Hawaiian BBQ Meatballs. Take a look now, or pin them for later!

How to Serve Asian Turkey Meatballs

These delicious meatballs can be served as an appetizer or a wholesome meal when a few side dishes are added.

How to serve meatballs as an appetizer

When you serve meatballs as an appetizer, you can serve them a few different ways. You can serve them individually on a platter, or they can be kept in a crockpot to stay warm.

  • To serve as individual bites: Simply place each meatball on a platter with a toothpick inserted in each meatball.
  • To serve in the crockpot: Once the meatballs are done cooking, place the crockpot in the warm method and serve. You will need to stir them every so often to keep the meatballs covered in the sauce.
Asian turkey meatballs are mixture of sweet and savory.

How to serve meatballs as a meal

If you are making meatballs as a meal just add 1-2 sides to make it a well rounded meal. Here are a few of my favorite sides to serve them with.

  • Over Rice- This is one of our favorite ways to eat meatballs. My kids love rice, so any meal with rice they are super excited. Rice is also great because it is a grain you usually have on hand and it’s inexpensive. My families favorite rice is Jasmine rice because it is full of flavor.
  • With Potatoes- Potatoes are another great staple we use as a side dish. You could serve the potatoes mashed, fried on the stove, or baked.
  • With Zoodles- If you are looking to lighten up the dish or add more vegetables, zoodles is a great option.
  • Cauliflower- You can serve cauliflower as a side dish by making it into rice. You could also roast the cauliflower with some garlic and olive oil.
  • Roasted Vegetables- I love roasting vegetables because I feel the flavor of the vegetables is so strong. I also love the crispness it gives the vegetable. Some of our favorite veggies to roast are asparagus, green beans, broccoli, carrots, and Brussel sprouts.
  • Side Salad- I always love a good side salad. I always love to serve a side salad with dishes like these because the flavors merry so well with dressings like ranch or balsamic vinaigrette.  It is a great little extra to add to the meal. You could also do something like this broccoli slaw that would be perfect!

I hope this gave you a few good ideas to get dinner started with these Asian Turkey Meatballs.  If you have a favorite side or way to serve these that I missed, please leave me a note in the comments so that other readers and I can give it a try next time I make it for the family!

Tips for Making Asian Turkey Meatballs

The best thing about this recipe is how simple and easy it is to make. I am going to run through an overview here and add some notes that might be helpful for you while making the dish. Make sure to get the FULL recipe at the bottom.

Steps to making Asian Turkey Meatballs.
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix the bread crumbs, soy sauce, cilantro, egg, jalapeño, onion, garlic and ginger in a large bowl.
  2. Add the meat and mix until everything is combined.
  3. Form into 2 inch balls and place evenly on a cookie sheet. Bake 40-45 min.
    • The internal temperature needs to reach 165 degrees
  4. In a saucepan over medium heat, mix together sweet and sour sauce, barbecue sauce, soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, garlic, and sesame seed until it just begins to boil, remove from heat.

FAQ’s for Asian Turkey Meatballs Recipe

Can I use other meat besides turkey?

Yes, you can use whatever meat you desire, both ground beef and ground chicken work well.

Are these meatballs gluten free?

No, but the recipe can be modified to accommodate a gluten free diet. To ensure the meatballs are gluten free you will need gluten free panko, barbecue sauce, and sweet and sour sauce.

How to store Asian Turkey Meatballs

This recipe is pretty tasty so you may not have much in the case of leftovers. But if you do you can refrigerate or freeze them for later. I like to store my leftovers in meal prep containers for quick on the go lunches throughout the week.

  • To refrigerate: store leftovers in an airtight container and place in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.
  • To freeze: place the meatballs and sauce in seperate airtight containers and place in the freezer for up to a month.  I like to package them in individual serving sizes so they can be quickly reheated for one.

Asian Turkey Meatballs Leftover Recipe Ideas

I love repurposing my meals into something new throughout the week. This makes for easy meals on those busy nights. Here are some of my favorite ways to repurpose these delicious Asian Turkey Meatballs:

  • Asian Turkey Meatball Pizza– grabs a pizza crust (homemade or store bought), spread some sauce over the top. Top the pizza with meatballs, mozzarella cheese, red peppers, and diced green onions. Bake as directed.
  • Asian Meatball Subs– Grab a sub roll, and cut lengthwise. Layer the meatballs, cabbage, red pepper, provolone cheese, and onions.
  • Asian Meatballs Bowl– Add rice, meatballs, and top with some of your favorite vegetables like chopped green onion, red bell peppers, edemame, cabbage, etc to make a delicious wholesome meal.

I hope you enjoy these Asian Turkey Meatballs as much as we do!  Both as an appetizer, an easy dinner idea, and with the leftovers made into a new and exciting meal!

I like this recipe a lot. I used onion powder instead of real onions and I fried the meatballs in a sauce pan instead of using the oven. I made some eggnoodles to go along with it also. Overall great recipe

My wife does not care for ground beef or barbecue sauce, but she loved this recipe and was sorry there were no leftovers. I am making it with turkey tonight!

Do you make your own sweet and sour sauce or is there a store bought version you’d suggest? i’m familiar with Sweet Chili Sauce but am striking out finding Sweet and Sour Sauce at the store.

I just buy it at the store! I can’t remember the exact brand that I used here, but if you go to the asian food section they usually have a selection. I hope that helps!

I noticed you mention adding soy sauce twice in the first paragraph. You then mention adding again when making the sauce, however, there is no soy sauce listed in the sauce ingredients!

Hi Kelli- I am so sorry about this! I somehow left it out when I was typing the recipe up. It should have 1/4 cup in the sauce, and I have updated the recipe card to reflect that. Thanks for taking the time to let me know about our mistake! I hope it didn’t throw off your meal. -Kimber
