  • Asian Zing Wings Recipe

With their sticky-sweet-spicy sauce, Asian Zing Wings are so addicting. You might be able to walk into a restaurant and buy Asian Zing Buffalo Wild Wings there, but I love making them at home. They really are SO easy to make.

All you have to do is place fresh or frozen wings in your slow cooker, toss them with seasonings, then cook them until perfectly tender. Then, it’s time to toss the wings in a generous amount of homemade Asian Zing Wing sauce and bake them briefly, just until they’re crispy on the outside and fall-apart tender inside.

I love to brush them with more sauce when they’re fresh out of the oven, then serve them piping hot with a cool dipping sauce like this buttermilk ranch. They’re gone in minutes!

Why I LOVE this recipe!

  • Customizable – Make these Asian Zing Wings less spicy–and therefore more family friendly–by reducing the Sriracha. Or, if you’re hosting heat-lovers, go the other way and load up on the Sriracha sauce!
  • Very little active prep time – All you need are 5 minutes hands-on time to make these wings.
  • SO TASTY! – Seriously, the sticky sauce is sweet, it’s tangy, it’s spicy, and it’s SO good on the tender, fall-off-the-bone wings. The combo is incredible! You’re going to love knowing how to make Asian Zing Wings.

What are Asian Zing Wings?

My kid’s favorite wings flavor is Asian Zing from Buffalo Wild Wings. These wings have a sticky sauce that is sweet, savory, and just a little spicy to make them extra delicious!

While I have no inside knowledge of the Buffalo Wild Wings recipe, this is what we have come up with to get the same amazing sticky, sweet flavor on wings at home!

Recipe Notes

This Slow Cooker Asian Zing Wings recipe is as simple as promised! Just a a few ingredients and 5 minutes prep time for a family friendly meal or appetizer.

In this section I am going to go through a few tips and tricks I use for how to make Asian Zing Wings to get the absolute best and most delicious results.

Make sure to scroll to the bottom for the FULL recipe card.

Ingredients + Substitutions

Ingredients for Asian Zing Wings.
  • Chicken wings – Start with fresh OR frozen wings. Either will work!
  • Spices & seasonings – Chili powder, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper for smoky and spicy flavor.

For the Asian Zing Sauce:

  • Honey – For stickiness and sweetness. If you prefer sweeter wings, just add some more honey.
  • Sriracha sauce – This key ingredient brings heat–and amazing flavor–to your Asian Zing Wing sauce.
  • Ketchup – For added flavor with a touch of sweet. Use your favorite brand; any will do.
  • Rice wine vinegar – For a tangy, unmistakably Asian vibe.
  • Soy sauce – Adds umami flavor and a bit of saltiness.
  • Garlic powder – For garlic flavor that melds so well with the other ingredients in these Asian Zing Wings.

Make sure to see the recipe card at the bottom of this post for the full quantities and ingredients list.

Recipe Variations

If you love this recipe as much as we do and want some quick ways to change it up for variety, these little tips will do the trick!

  • Less-Spicy Asian Zing Wings– Increase the ketchup and reduce the Sriracha for milder wings with less heat.
  • Extra Spicy Asian Zing Wings– To kick your Asian Zing Wing sauce up a few notches in the heat department, reduce the ketchup and use more Sriracha.
  • Gluten-Free Asian Zing Wings– Swap in Tamari for the soy sauce for a gluten-free version.
  • Asian Zing Boneless Wings– To make a boneless version of these wings, use chicken breast instead! Simply cut three boneless, skinless chicken breasts into 1/2-inch strips and use those in place of the wings.

Recipe Step by Step

I am going to highlight a few key steps in the recipe here, but make sure to jump down to the recipe card for comprehensive instructions on how to make Asian Zing Wings.

Seasonings for Asian Zing Wings in a small glass bowl with a distressed wood background.

Add the chili powder, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper to a small bowl and mix it together.

Add the chicken wings to your Crock Pot and sprinkle the seasoning mix over the top. Toss to coat the wings with seasoning.

Cover and cook until the chicken is completely cooked through and tender.

Transfer the wings to a bowl, removing as much liquid as possible. Pour the sauce over the top and toss to coat the wings.

Asian Zing Wings are lined up on a cookie sheet, being brushed with sauce.

Place the wings on a baking sheet and brush with more sauce.

A baking sheet is lined with Asian Zing Wings that have been baked until crispy.

Bake until crisp and bubbly, brush with the remaining sauce, and serve.

Recipe Tips

  1. Make sure the wings are dry before adding sauce – The sauce will stick better to drier wings, so I recommend using a slotted spoon to transfer the wings to the bowl.
  2. Don’t overcook – If you cook your wings for longer in the Crock Pot, they’ll become too delicate to handle and will fall apart when saucing them.
  3. Keep the wings warm in your slow cooker – Discard the liquid from your Crockpot, then clean and dry it. Add the finished wings back into the Crock Pot and set to warm. They’ll stay hot for whenever people are ready to eat!

Recipe FAQ’s

What is the flavor profile of Asian Zing?

Asian Zing sauce is sweet and spicy, with flavors of chili peppers and soy sauce accented by garlic and honey.

Is Asian Zing keto friendly?

Because of the honey in the Asian Zing sauce, the carbohydrate content may be higher than needed for the keto diet.

Are Asian Zing Wings hot?

Yes, Asian Zing Wings are meant to be spicy. If you prefer a less spicy Asian Zing sauce, you can reduce the sriracha sauce and increase the ketchup.

How many wings per person?

4 pounds of chicken wings = 20-24 wings. A good rule of thumb is 4-5 wings per person, in which case this recipe serves about 5. Feel free to double or half the recipe as needed; it’s easy to do.

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 4 pounds chicken wings, fresh or frozen

For the Asian Zing Sauce

  • ½ cup honey
  • ¼ cup Sriracha sauce
  • ¼ cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, combine the chili powder, salt, paprika, garlic powder, and black pepper. Mix.
  • Place the chicken wings in the crockpot and sprinkle with the seasoning mix, stirring to get the wings coated evenly on all sides.
  • Place the lid on, and cook on high for 3-4 hours, or low for 5-6 hours.
  • Once done, preheat the oven to 425˚F, remove the wings from the crockpot and place in a large bowl.
Tip: The drier the wings are the better the sauce will stick, so try to remove as much of the liquid as possible when transferring them into the bowl.
  • Whisk together the sriracha sauce, ketchup, honey, rice wine vinegar, soy sauce, and garlic powder, then pour them over the wings and toss them to coat.
  • Lay the wings on a baking sheet. Brush with more sauce and cook in the oven on the top rack for 15-18 minutes. Then, brush with remaining sauce from the bowl you mixed the wings in and serve hot.
